Check it out and learn how to remove the valve core without a tool designed for it! The process is easy, all you need is your hands to be firm and perfect while you do it!
What We Will Cover
Step by Step Removing Valve Core without Removal Tool
Here, we are going to use needle-nose pliers to remove the valve core and not a removal tool. If you don’t have it, go for a fork! Yes, it will work the same!
Step 1: Positioning the Tire
Your first job is to place the tire properly. While placing it, you must ensure that the stem is moving upwards. Place it like this and then you are ready for the next step. You might ask why we are doing this.
Well, when you position the tire in a place when the stem goes upwards, the tire gets manageable for you. It gets easy for you to remove the core!
Step 2: Remove the Cap
Now that you are done with placing the tire in the right manner, you have to check the valve cap. Go through the tire lever first and find the valve cap. Once you find it, all you need to do is detach it.
The size of the valve cap is very small. In this case, after removing it, you have to safeguard it. If it loses, you won’t be getting a new one soon!
While removing, you can use your hands too. It’s a very easy process to remove the cap. In this case, I will say hands are a safer option when you are dealing with such small things as the valve cap.
Step 3: Rotate the Valve Stem
It’s time for you to use the valve core removal tool. A valve stem removal tool or slotted metal valve cap will do the same work for you, my friend! When you use a valve core removal tool or a stem removal tool, all you need to do is rotate the valve stem.
In this case, you have to go in an anti-clockwise manner. And no, one-time rotating won’t work at all! You have to rotate it several times before you get it done. Once you have rotated it a few times in an anti-clockwise manner, you will see that it’s ready to get off.
You can easily take it off from the stem. But wait, we are not using any valve core removal tool! Then how can we remove the core without the tool? It’s easy! All you need is a pair of needle-nose pliers!
- Get your hands on a pair of needle-nose pliers first. To remove the core, you have to go through the valve core and add some sealant.
- With the help of the needle nose pliers, you have to start squeezing on the flat sides. Make sure you get your hands on both the flat sides of the valve. By squeezing it, you can easily unscrew it!
- If you don’t have a pair of needle-nose pliers, you can also settle for a fork! Yes, we are talking about a random fork!
Note: But we always recommend you getting a valve core remover tool as these are inexpensive and easier! Go for the Presta valve core removal tool for the job. Chain tools for removing it will be better than the other ones available!
Step 4: Check the Air Compression Process
The process will work for the MTB tubeless valves too. After you have gone through the previous step, you are ready for the next step. In this period, the air of the tire will start coming out.
Check if it is working as we mentioned or not. Notice the sound. The air coming out of the tire will make a little noise. In this position, we highly recommend you using eye protection.
As the air compression process occurs, you have to safeguard your eyes to keep them safe. It’s better to wear the necessary protection from the beginning.
Step 5: Replace the Valve Core
Now you are ready for adding a new valve core to the tire! All you need to do is go through the same process reversed. Also, while installing the new valve core, you must make sure that you are rotating it clockwise.
Here, you will need to maintain the right specification too. Rotate it constantly. After a while, you will see it is tightened. Once it is tightened, you are done! After you are done, you have to test it.
Check the bead here. It should always afford you the perfect balance. You have to ensure this. Also, try to go for some wheel rotations. If you see it’s perfect, then it is!
Wrap Up
So, if you plan not to invest in the valve core removal tool, it’s alright. You don’t need to! If you have a pair of simple needle nose pliers or just a fork in your house, it will do the work. But when it comes to making the process easier and safer, we always recommend you using the tool that the manufacture recommends. Thus, it’s always better to buy a tool as it won’t cost much!
